The End of an Era: Obama’s Farewell

Enoch Waiswa Report for The Silver Script

President Obama’s farewell Address, did not focus on the negative aspects of the change of power, but hopes for a peaceful transition.

“I committed to President-elect Trump that my administration would ensure the smoothest possible transition, said President Obama. “ Just as President Bush did for me.”

After eight years, Obama’s term of office has concluded  as newly elected president Donald Trump takes over.

The country is still divided post election as many are dissatisfied with the results.  President Obama encouraged the American people in his Farewell Address to support Trump regardless of the controversy surrounding him stressing the importance of unity during this time.

“Now, it is no secret that the president-elect and I have some pretty significant differences,” said President Obama.

With different views on topics such as healthcare and immigration, President Obama was able to overcome the criticism he received from Donald Trump and continued to support him as America’s new leader.

Furthermore, President Obama’s support and hope for Donald Trump was seen when he reminded people of the “professional gracious” treatment he received from President Bush back in 2008.

Although he will be stepping down as president, President Obama will continue to work and help Donald Trump to assure the transition goes well.

“And one thing you realize quickly in this job is that the presidency and the vice presidency is bigger than any of us,” said President Obama.
